Numbers: Buying, Adding, and Adjusting

Updated 8 months ago

Tracking numbers are unique phone numbers that can be placed on the ads and assigned to different marketing channels, allowing users to accurately track and measure the performance of their campaigns. By analyzing the data generated from tracking numbers, businesses can gain insights into which channels are driving calls and conversions.

For instance, if you advertise in the metro, in a magazine, and on a website, and you use the same phone number everywhere, you'll have to ask the caller each time where they learned about your service or product. However, if you place unique phone numbers on each advertising channel, you can accurately determine where the customer saw your advertisement. This way, you can precisely identify which phone number receives the most calls, optimizing your budget and excluding ineffective traffic sources.

The Phone Numbers section is the central hub for managing your tracking numbers and number pools. Here, you can add, edit, or delete tracking numbers, as well as view their associated details and configurations.

Buying a Tracking Number

Please note that you don't create or purchase a number; you rent it with a monthly fee for the usage according to your rates. Renting a number in the system is quite straightforward. Go to the Tracking Numbers section and click on the “Create” button. Then, you need to specify the parameters:

  • Country
  • Prefix: you can specify the region code. For example, if you want to rent a number for the state of Hawaii, you can use the prefix 808.
  • Number Type: local or toll-free

An interactive search will be performed, and a list of available numbers for rent will be suggested. By clicking the “Buy” button, you rent the number, and the corresponding amount will be deducted from your balance according to your rates. Further charges for this number will occur every 30 days.

After renting a number, you can configure its settings. To do this, click on the Edit icon in the Actions column.

  • Provide a name for a quick search or to understand the purpose of this number.
  • More detailed settings include specifying vendors, traffic sources, and number pools. Then click "Save" to apply the changes.

When adding a new number, make sure to configure it properly by assigning a name, vendor, traffic source, and number pool.

Types of Tracking Numbers

There are two main types of tracking numbers: static and dynamic.

  • Static tracking numbers are assigned to specific marketing channels. In this case, each ad has its own separate phone number.
  • Dynamic tracking numbers are used in conjunction with number pools to dynamically display different numbers based on the visitor's source or other criteria. In this situation, a unique phone number is displayed to each potential caller.

Deleting a Tracking Number

To remove a tracking number, simply click on the "Delete" button located next to the number on the Manage Numbers page. After confirming the deletion, the tracking number will be removed from your account. It is important to note that once the number is deleted, it cannot be repurchased. The number will not be available for purchase by any user for a period of one month. This ensures that any traffic sent to the number has been effectively suspended.
